Cheese from Human Breast Milk

"My extensive experience in making Paneer compelled me to try something different, that is, making Paneer out of my own breastmilk. Basically this is human cheese. Why would I do that? Well, basically, there are about twenty bags (each 150ml) of frozen breastmilk in the fridge, and they have passed their three months drinkability period, which means I would not be able to donate the milk like I did before. But the milk is still less than six month old, which is the actual expiry date. So what do I do with it? I could make cream soup like I did several months ago. But I really wanted to try something different, and making Breast Milk Paneer sounds really exciting.

And also, I have googled about this. Although people contemplated and imagined about it, nobody ever actually attempted to make breast milk cheese."

Elephants Use Their Feet to Hear

Elephants use their feet to "hear" calls from other herds but react most if the calls come from elephants they know, New Scientist reports.

Elephants are already known for their ability to emit low-frequency sounds to communicate with herds up to several kilometers (miles) away.

Researchers led by Caitlin O'Connell-Rodwell of Stanford University Medical Center in California also suspected that these rumblings generate seismic waves that travel through the ground, enabling elephants to pick up the signals through their surprisingly sensitive feet.

Her team recorded alarm calls in Namibia and Kenya made by elephants when lions were lurking.

They then played just the seismic portion of the sound through the ground to herds at watering holes in Namibia.

The elephants "reacted dramatically, first freezing and then clumping in tight groups, with babies in the middle," the British weekly reports in next Saturday's issue.

But the farther the elephants lived from the herd which made the call, the less they reacted.

2012 Olympic Logo Seizure Scare

The new logo for the 2012 Olympics in London has been withdrawn due to concerns of its potential effects on people with epilepsy. The logo, said to be chosen to build interest with the 'internet generation', cost $800,000. Hopefully that wasn't with taxpayers' money..

Hedgehog Deflated to Save it's Life

"Vets had to save a hedgehog by popping it after it ballooned to the size of a football.

A woman found the hugely inflated hog, nicknamed Michelin, curled up on her driveway and became worried because it was unable to move.

She managed to pick up the prickly creature and took him to a nearby animal rescue centre where experts deflated him.

The unusual condition which caused Michelin to swell with air is called "ballooning".

It is caused by air escaping from the hedgehog's lungs and being trapped underneath its skin."

Cop Watch LA

A site dedicated to keep watch on police in L.A. in order to hopefully bring light to the often marginalized offenses police officer commit against citizens.


Personally, I feel this is a very necessary activity needed on the part of the citizens. Yes, there needs to be someone out there to protect the people, but besides the fact that the police aren't even legally obligated to protect ANYONE, they often do more to hurt than to help. I'm not sure how the situation is in smaller cities, but carrying a video camera in LA has always kept me much safer than carrying a weapon.

It might also be interesting to note the starting yearly salaries of police in LA are now $73,000 [and is advertised on billboards frequently], requires no previous schooling, and you are turned down for the job if you either test out being too smart or are overqualified with degrees.

I would much rather be protected by someone who has at least taken classes on ethics than someone who was interested in a high wage advertised on a billboard.

"The Argentine lake duck may be small, but don’t take pity on it. See, the drake (male duck) of the lowly fowl has the longest penis of any bird species in the world.

From head to tail, the Argentine lake duck measures about 17 inches. That also happens to be the length of its corkscrew-shaped penis when stretched out. The tip of the penis is soft and brush-like, which the drake uses to brush away sperms deposited by a previous suitor.

University of Alaska Kevin McCracken explains that the ducks are promiscuous, and the long penis may be an evolutionary adaptation for the males to become more attractive to the females. That, and the drake also uses his penis to "lasso" a female who tries to escape from it."

"Japanese researches at the Japan Science and Technology Agency based at the Osaka University introduced CB2 a child-sized android.

The 130cm tall and 33kg weighing humanoid robot kid can see, hear and feel. CB2 has 200 tactile sensors embedded in its silicon skin.

51 actuators inside the CB2 android run on compressed air and enable the robot to make smooth complex movements.

CB2 has apparently the physical ability of a 1- or 2-year-old toddler and can turn over and stand up with assistance.
CB stands for Child-Robot with Biomimetic Body."

Leave it to the Japanese to make something awesomely freaky.
